Sterling Silver Hoops and Herkimer Diamond Gemstone Earrings

in: Earrings

Sterling Silver Hoops and Herkimer Diamond Gemstone Earrings.  Okay, so Herkimer Diamonds are not actually "diamonds", but double-terminated quartz crystals with exceptional clarity (water-clear) discovered in Herkimer County, New York.  The "Diamond" in their name is due to their clarity and natural faceting of this gemstone. This clarity makes it hard for me to photograph how beautiful these little nuggets are!

I forged these oval-shaped hoops from sterling silver wire, and soldered a ring at the top. The hoops has been gently faceted with my hammer to pick up even more shine when the earring is worn.  I then wrapped these crystal-clear Herkimer Diamond nuggets from the center drop within this hoop.  Tiny silver beads flank the gemstone. These earrings are incredibly lightweight and very comfortable to wear all day long -- or night, for that matter!

The earrings are suspended from French style ear wires, which I forged from Argentium  Sterling Silver, and tumbled for extra strength and shine. These hoop earrings measure approximately 1 7/8" from the top of the ear wire to the bottom of the earring, and are 7/8" wide.

I was inspired by the month of April's birthstone (Diamond!) in making these earrings.

Jewelry is made using traditional metalworking techniques, including soldering, filing, sanding, texturing, polishing, and tumbling in my home studio. Jewelry comes wrapped in a cotton-lined gift box and ships quickly. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

NOTE: 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these earrings will be donated to Miracle Horse Rescue, a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me help those who cannot help themselves!
