Layered Concho Drop Earrings- Concho - The word concho comes from the Spanish “concha”, which actually means “conch” or “seashell” but has come to mean “round disks of silver”. Conchos are used often, particularly in the southwest, to add embellishments to enhance the design of leather goods and jewelry. I am particularly drawn to the details of a concho and their 3-dimensional effects.
I hand crafted these highly detailed conchos from sterling silver sheet, and soldered them to a hand cut, round back plate, creating a layered effect. I then textured edges of the back plate, darkened the sterling silver, and then polished the earrings to give the patina a rich finish.
The layered conchos measure 1" round, and the earrings measure approximately 1 3/4" in length from the top of the hand wrought sterling silver ear wire to the bottom of the earring.
