Sterling Silver and Artisan Ceramic Horse Pendant Necklace

in: Necklace

Sterling Silver and Artisan Ceramic Horse Pendant Necklace - This porcelain ceramic cabochon is completely crafted and hand painted by artist Jean Cotton (Folklorica Design) - I was mesmerized when I first saw this online over two years ago.  But, the cabochon is not 100% completely flat - so it me a while to come up with a design to set this beautiful work of art in sterling silver.

The bottom portion of the pendant includes a technique called Castellated Bezel Setting - or, serrated bezel.  Each cut is measured and sawed by hand from thick, heavy gauge sterling silver. Four sterling silver prongs are added to the side and top to securely hold this piece of art in place. Three little "star" embellishments - made by hand from sterling silver - are placed at the top. I don't know - the Star symbol always reminds me of "The Star of Texas" and it seemed appropriate with the beautiful little horse! An additional star has been added to the bezel.

After fabrication and polishing, I have darkened the sterling silver, and polished the highlights to create a rustic patina.  The pendant hangs from an 18", black, 4mm wide braided leather cord, which closes securely with a sterling silver lobster clasp.

The pendant measures 2 3/4" in length by approximately 1 3/8 in width. All metals used in this design are .925 sterling silver.

This is truly a keepsake for the Horse Lover in your life!
