Ocean Jasper and Sterling Silver Necklace

Ocean Jasper and Sterling Silver Necklace - I quite recently returned from a vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  I am not sure if I was inspired to grab this gorgeous Ocean Jasper Cabochon because of my close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean...but I'd like to think so!  Ocean Jasper is found in only one place in the world, northwestern Madagascar. I personally find that fact fascinating! Pops of orange are striking against the moss green and milky white background of this lovely stone. I hand stamped an organic design on the pendant, and mimicked the "bubble" effect of the orange bursts by cutting circles onto the backplate.

While a sterling silver chain would work with this lovely stone, I hand wire wrapped Ocean Jasper beads in sterling silver wire to create a chain. While each bead is different, they all contain shades of color that are in the pendant itself.

I darkened the sterling silver and hand buffed to bring out the highlights.  The necklace measures 22" in length and securely closes with a simple hook and eye clasp I forged from heavy gauge sterling silver.  The pendant drop measures 2" in length from the top of the bail.

Truly a beautiful statement necklace for the person who loves Ocean Jasper and/or all the neutral tones contained throughout this beautiful gemstone!

All metals used in this design are .925 sterling silver.

Jewelry is made using traditional metalworking techniques, including soldering, filing, sanding, texturing, polishing, and tumbling in my home studio.  Jewelry comes wrapped in a cotton-lined gift box and ships quickly.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
